I have had a love for Dachsunds for aproximently 12 years. They make me smile. Not only that, they make everyone smile! I wanted to know how many Daschunds live in the Baraboo area, so I used facebook as a way to spread the word. This project is far from done, but I was able to capture quite a few. One thing is for sure, Daschunds are clever, a bit naughty, highly and sweet

Askim loves camping, motorcycle rides and eating hot dogs. He is very much loved and adored by his people parent, Kim. She told me the story about how he ended up in her home. Askim was originally her son’s dog, and when he got deployed, became his girlfriends dog. Through a few trials and quite a few errors, Kim was able to ‘rescue’ Askim, and he has been in her home ever since.

Oscar is a sweet doggie. He waits until all the other dogs in his home have been fed before he eats. He likes to lay next to the wood stove. When he cuddles with his German Shepard friend, he enjoys pulling out the other dogs tail hair. He loves to eat cheese, hot dogs and frozen ham.

Jasmine is a feisty little dog, as most dachshunds are. She loves her squeaky balls. She also enjoys chasing her cat friends around. Jasmine eats everything that is left out. The night before I interviewed her, she had gotten a hold of some fish food and ate the whole thing!

Bella is a bit well known around the Baraboo Dachshund Community. (Something I learned while doing this project.) She and her family live on a campground here in Baraboo. Bella eats everything. She loves to hide her treats in and around the house. She loves hunting mice and birds.

Dixie has been with her people family since she was 6 weeks old. Dixie isn’t a barker, which is kind of an interesting trait when it comes to Dachshunds. She likes to her her toys in blankets, and eventually destroys them. Her favorite thing to do is go for car rides! She also loves to eat, especially chips!

Hardy is the oldest dachshund that I had the pleasure of meeting. He is a very happy old guy, and loves the people sisters and family. 2 years ago he had some major back issues (like some long bodied dogs do), but was able to have it corrected with laser treatments. He is a modern medical miracle! He loves all food, and was very excited that I brought treats when I visited. He enjoys drinking milk from the other kids’ cereal bowls.

Abby is closely related to Hardy, if not by blood then by spirit. Her people parents have had a few daschunds before her, and they love the breed. After their last dog passed away, Hardy’s people parents decided that they needed a dog. Abby was a gift! She loves car rides and being with her people parents, and gets anxiety when she is left alone. She loves her people grand kids, and loves popcorn!

Gerri is the sweetest puppy I have ever seen, there I have said it, now getting on with it. She loves to chew on bones, she loves car rides and walks. She is a shared custody dog, her people mother and people sister take turns with her based on their work schedules. She hates being alone, and never leaves her people’s side.

Rusty is also a famous dog amongst the Baraboo Daschund Community. He even visits Maplewoord nursing home a few times a year to visit with the residents. Rusty has a strange but true trick, he is able to open up his Christmas presents on Christmas day. He loves anything that squeaks, and destroys all of his toys. He loves going on rides and sleeping under the covers.
This is 7 year old Cinnamon. Her parents got her when she was 13 weeks old. Cinnamon’s favorite pastimes are chasing squirrels and barking at the mailman. She loves long walks on the Riverwalk. When I met her she was in her UW Badger sweater, but she has all kinds of attire including Packer jersey’s, Halloween Costumes, and a special Christmas Dress. Her favorite people snack is a little slice of lunch meat her mom gives her in the morning. She is a super sweet dog! I love the up close picture. I had treats in my hand!
