WDSD (World Down Syndrome Day) started in 2006, it is held on March 21st each year. The idea behind WDSD is to encourage and help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities. You can find out more here: https://worlddownsyndromeday.org/
Why March 21st?
The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
What is Lots of Socks?
Why socks? Well, because chromosomes look like socks and people with Down’s syndrome have an extra chromosome! “Lots of Socks” is acknowledged around the world as being associated with Down Syndrome
Max is 11 months old. He is the youngest of 4 siblings. He loves watching his brothers and sisters. I am lucky enough to know his momma very well, and I’ve been able to be in Max’s life since he was born. He is always smiling!
