Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph veterans of Baraboo honoring soldiers who have passed by putting flags up at our local cemetery.
Every year, Baraboo puts on a really fantastic Memorial Day celebration. Starting at 9 a.m on May 27th, 2019 there is an event called “Flowers on the Water,” where the public is invited to drop flowers into the Baraboo river as a memorial to men and women killed in battle. There is a speaker, a salute to the deceased and the High school Choral group sings. If you haven’t gone to this, I highly recommend it!
At 10 a.m, there is a brief procession to the courthouse square where the BHS band will play and there will be a Veterans classic car ride.
At 11 a.m, Walnut hill cemetery will host the memorial day ceremony. Once again, the BHS band will perform, there is a reading, placing of wreaths, a featured speaker, taps and salute to the deceased and singing of the national anthem.
